Transitional Prime
Minister of Somalia
Ali Mohamed Ghedi

Ali Mohammed Ghedi (born 1952) is a veterinary surgeon and an African Union
official.

Mr.Ghedi was relatively unknown in political circles when he was appointed as
Prime Minister of Somalia in November 2004.

He promised to form an inclusive government, and to strive for reconciliation among
Mogadishu's warlords. Mr Ghedi was not linked to any of Somalia's armed groups
during the war.

He is affiliated to Mogadishu's Hawiye clan, one of Somalia's two main clans,
Hawiye and Darod. Ali Mohammed Ghedi is Hawiye Abgal.
Ghedi was in exile in Nairobi, the capital of neighbouring Kenya until July, 2005 and is now at Jowhar, one
of two towns (the other being Baidoa) being used as a joint capital for the time being, as warlords still
control Mogadishu.
